What GEO Lens checks for AI search citability
GEO Lens audits the main content of a page against what AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini need in order to lift and cite an answer. Issues are grouped into five categories, and each category gets its own sub-score.
- Extractability: can an AI lift a direct answer? Walls of text, unanswered question headings, buried definitions and missing opening summaries.
- Structure: H1 usage, heading hierarchy, question headings, lists versus prose, comparison tables and a table of contents.
- Entity and E-E-A-T: author, dates, sourced claims, first-hand experience and entity consistency.
- Schema: JSON-LD coverage for Article, FAQPage and HowTo, plus broken markup.
- Citability: vague quantifiers, outbound sources, quotable stat-sentences and hedged claims.
How to audit a page for GEO and AEO
An audit takes one click and works on the page you have open.
- Open the page you want to check in Chrome.
- Click Scan. GEO Lens analyses the main content and highlights problems in colour right where they occur.
- Read the side panel: an overall GEO score from 0 to 100 with an A to F grade, plus the five category sub-scores.
- Click any issue to jump to it on the page, and toggle highlight categories on or off to focus on one area.
- Clear or close the scan and your page is restored exactly as it was.
A scored audit with a fix for every issue
Every issue in the side panel comes with enough detail to act on without guesswork, so you can move from diagnosis to edit quickly.
- Severity, so you know what to tackle first
- The exact text affected
- A plain-English explanation of the problem
- A specific fix
- A self-contained HTML report you can export and send to clients
- Recent-scan history
Who GEO Lens is for
GEO Lens is built for SEO professionals and content writers optimising for Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO). Use it to review a draft before it goes live, to audit existing articles that are not being cited, or to show a client which parts of a page get in the way of AI answers.
Privacy: everything runs locally in your browser
GEO Lens needs no account and no API key. It makes no network calls, and no data ever leaves the page. It also requests no broad site access: it only runs when you click Scan.
What GEO Lens does not do
GEO Lens does not query ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini to see whether your page is currently cited; it makes no network calls, so the score reflects how the page itself is written and structured. It does not edit your page either, because the highlights are non-destructive. It audits one page at a time, and only when you click Scan.
About GEO Lens
Frequently asked questions
Is GEO Lens free?
Yes. GEO Lens is a free Chrome extension. It needs no account and no API key, and everything runs locally in your browser, so you can scan as many pages as you like without signing up for anything.
What does the GEO score measure?
The GEO score is a 0 to 100 rating, with an A to F grade, of how ready a page is to be cited by AI search. It is built from five category sub-scores: extractability, structure, entity and E-E-A-T, schema, and citability.
Which AI search engines is GEO Lens built for?
GEO Lens checks how ready a page is to be cited by AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. It does this by auditing the page content and structure locally, not by querying those services, so no data is sent to them.
Does GEO Lens change my page?
No. The colour-coded highlights are non-destructive. When you clear the scan or close the panel, your page is restored exactly as it was. GEO Lens shows the fix for each issue, and you decide what to change in your own editor or CMS.
Does GEO Lens send my content anywhere?
No. GEO Lens makes no network calls and no data ever leaves the page. It requests no broad site access and only runs when you click Scan, so it is not reading pages in the background as you browse.
Can I share GEO Lens results with clients?
Yes. You can export a self-contained HTML report of the audit and send it to clients. The report covers the scored issues, including severity, the exact text affected, a plain-English explanation and the recommended fix.
