Export ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini conversations as clean files

Threadkeeper turns an AI conversation into a file on your computer before it gets lost in a long sidebar or a closed tab. The formatting comes through looking like the original, so an exported chat is still easy to read months later. Images are embedded directly in the file, which means an export keeps working with no internet connection.

  • Headings, nested lists and tables
  • Code blocks with syntax highlighting
  • Links, quotes, images and maths
  • Markdown for notes and repos, HTML for a self-contained page you can open anywhere, PDF for sharing and printing

How to export a ChatGPT conversation to PDF

The same steps work on Claude and Gemini. PDF export uses your browser's own print dialog, which keeps the text selectable and respects your page setup.

  • Open the conversation on chatgpt.com.
  • Click the Threadkeeper icon in the toolbar, or the export button that appears inside the chat page.
  • Pick a format: PDF, Markdown or HTML.
  • Choose what to include: the whole conversation, only your messages, or only the AI's replies.
  • For PDF, choose "Save as PDF" when the print dialog opens.

Bulk export your AI chat history to a ZIP

If you want to archive more than one thread, select conversations from your sidebar and download them all as a single ZIP. A progress bar shows how far the batch has got, and a cancel button stops it at any point.

  • Up to 200 conversations per run
  • Conversations are processed one at a time, so the site is not hammered with requests
  • If a conversation fails or was deleted, it is listed at the end and the rest of the batch still completes

Who Threadkeeper is for

Consultants and freelancers use it to hand AI sessions to clients as documentation. Researchers use it to archive their work. Developers use it to keep the answer that actually solved the bug. It also suits anyone who has closed a tab and wished they hadn't.

Private by design: your chats stay on your machine

Threadkeeper collects nothing. There is no account, no sign-in and no server. Your conversations are read on your own machine and written straight to your downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded, logged or sent anywhere, and there is no analytics or telemetry of any kind. The only network request it makes is fetching the images already shown in the conversation you are exporting, so they can be embedded in your file. Your settings and a short list of recent exports (titles only, never the contents) are stored locally in your browser.

What Threadkeeper does not do

Threadkeeper only runs on chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com, and does nothing on any other site. It does not save chats to a cloud or sync them between devices: files go to your own downloads folder. Bulk export stops at 200 conversations per run. These sites change their layouts often, so Threadkeeper ships several fallback strategies for each one. If it truly cannot read a page, it greys out its icon rather than breaking the page you are on.

About Threadkeeper

Frequently asked questions

Is Threadkeeper free?

Yes. Threadkeeper is a free Chrome extension. There is no account to create and no sign-in, so you can install it and export your first ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini conversation straight away.

Does Threadkeeper upload my chats anywhere?

No. Conversations are read on your own machine and written straight to your downloads folder. Nothing is uploaded, logged or sent anywhere, and there is no analytics or telemetry. The only network request is fetching images already shown in the chat so they can be embedded in the export.

Which AI sites does Threadkeeper support?

Threadkeeper supports three sites: chatgpt.com, claude.ai and gemini.google.com. It only runs on those three and does nothing anywhere else. If a site changes its layout and Threadkeeper cannot read the page, it greys out its icon instead of breaking the page.

How do I save a ChatGPT chat as a PDF?

Open the conversation, click the Threadkeeper icon or the button inside the chat page, and choose PDF. Your browser's print dialog opens; pick "Save as PDF". Using the print dialog keeps the text selectable and respects your page setup.

Can I export my whole ChatGPT history at once?

You can bulk-export by selecting conversations from your sidebar and downloading them as a single ZIP. Each run handles up to 200 conversations, one at a time, with a progress bar and a cancel button. Any conversation that fails is listed at the end.

Do exported chats work offline?

Yes. Images are embedded directly in the exported file, so a Markdown, HTML or PDF export still displays properly with no internet connection. HTML exports are self-contained pages you can open anywhere.
